Hypocrisy

There are many dangers of hypocrisy and in order to protect yourself you must identify hypocrisy with meaning. Now I am not writing this post to point fingers because I will be the first to admit the time in my life when I lived a hypocritical life style, it wasn't easy and to my defense I did not realize how hypocritical I was until the people I called hypocrites started to point there finger at me =-0

Hypocrisy (hy~poc~ri~sy)- the practice of processing standards, beliefs, etc., contrary to one's real character or actual behavior, especially the pretense of virtue and piety.

The bible gives us an example of hypocrisy in Acts 4:32-5:1-11
32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales35 and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement"),37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.2 With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?4 Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God."5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.8 Peter asked her, "Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?""Yes," she said, "that is the price."9 Peter said to her, "How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also."10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
You can see in this passage;
  • hypocrisy is motivated by a desire to impress others:
36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement"),37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.2 With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.
  • hypocrisy involves living a lie:
3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?4 Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God."
  • hypocrisy eventually is exposed:

3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?4 Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God."

  • hypocrisy has consequences:
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
  • hypocrisy impacts those around us:
.7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.8 Peter asked her, "Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?""Yes," she said, "that is the price."9 Peter said to her, "How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also."10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

God does not discipline us to punish us in order to pay us back but to win us back. However, If we sow sin we will reap a harvest of heartache,
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.~Galatians 6:7-8

It is sad that we are more worried about the opinions of others than my God's, being that the only opinion that really matters is God's. For no one else will be standing with us when we stand before God!! Yet so many of us try to keep ups with the Jones or battle for attention. We as Christians are suppose to be the example of Christ not the example of how to stumble and fall. So how do those around see you? Are you an example of Christ or do you have mud on your face?

You are writing a Gospel a chapter each day
by the things that you do and the things that you say
men read what you write whether faithless or true,
say what is the gospel according to you?

Just so you know~ if we, as Christians, are not as spiritual as we should be or we don't get it PERFECT every time we are not hypocrites we are human. However if we, as Christians, pretend to be more spiritual than we are or don't practice the beliefs that we believe in then we are hypocrites.
